Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and commentaries analysing portrayals women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. As of 2009, this ambitious young woman was targeted on the internet for her website series on gender in videogames. The woman was not stopped by the assault, in fact it only reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her numerous significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She is also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
