Madekwe is a British-Nigerian mixed race child was born into the family of South London. Her father is Nigerian and Swiss as well as her mom is English. Her family was in the South London Council Estate and went to The Brit School aged 14. She attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in which she earned an acting BA. She also appeared in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path, by David Watson.
Madekwe was chosen to play Ashley Davenport for the ABC drama The Beautiful Life. The two-episode series aired for just the duration of two weeks The CW and then it ended. Ashley Davenport was her role in the ABC drama Revenge. Madekwe's departure from the series was officially announced in May of 2013. After two years as the main character she was a guest in the first episode of season 3. From 2014 to 2016, she starred in Salem on the CW as Tituba. Madekwe married her long-time partner, Iddo. They collaborated in the film Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Goldberg also appeared alongside Madekwe on Salem.

Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into a large, extended family. Her parents, Roy and Patty along with her four brothers, Brett, Todd, and Bram, were all present. Ashley's brothers were athletic and played baseball in summer and hockey in the winter. Ashley couldn't walk, however she danced. As a result, when she turned 2 She discovered Baby Ballet.
